Glow in the dark powder coating available for a limited time.

We have tested Prismatic Powder's Glowbee Clear on a few different powders. We were mostly curious about the glow in the dark feature. Did it even work? How long would the glow last? What would it do to the original color of the lug nuts before it glowed.

What we found was that it needs a bright color as a base coat. On our first trial, we shot the Glowbee Clear over a Candy Green. We charged it in the sun for hours (we left it outside during the workday) and then tested it in the dark. The lug nuts were somewhat visible but very minimal, almost non-existent glow. We were a bit disappointed, but we wanted to try again.

We reviewed the website's FAQ's for this powder and realized the candy green was not the proper base color. Prismatic recommended a gloss white as a base. White reflects back all colors of light, so it is best for a glow in the dark clear coat.

Next we powder coated the lug nuts first gloss white, let them bake and dry before a double coat of Glowbee Clear. This actually worked and the lug nuts glowed in the dark after being charged by the sun all day. The only problem now is the lug nuts were white with a clear coat, but now they are a bright neon green. There seems to be cracks in the clear as well. We think the double coat of clear created a crystalized middle coat that created little cracks beneath the powder. It is only visible up close, and the top coat is fully in tack. Could be the glow in the dark  caused the small cracks on the middle coat.

Next we have to try just one top coat of Glowbee Clear over a gloss white coat. Hopefully this fixes the cracks in the middle coat and keeps the white color after the glow fades.

Prismatic's website mentions this color will only glow in the dark after being charged by a light source (like the sun) and it will only glow for a limited time.

We have yet to fully test out the full effects of this powder. Mainly because the powder coating team is fully booked with powder coating orders, so we get these powder coated in between orders.
